We’re assured it’s not a joke, so we’ll avoid the smelly-phone pun. A range of perfumes for mobile phones is being sold by a Glasgow-based company. The phone fragrances are being promoted by Jin Corporation, which is offering its fragrance system to mobile phone dealers. A choice of 12 fragrances will be available – including the mysterious “teen spirit” – with a single application lasting for around a month. The company claims that 99% of germs are killed by the process of applying the fragrance, which involves ultrasonic frequencies and ultraviolet light.

This isn’t the first time mobile phones and fragrances have been linked; Motorola has patented the concept of a fragranced handset, while back in episode 23 of The Fonecast (January 2007) we mentioned the NTT DoCoMo SO703i mobile phone with its stress-relieving ‘aroma panel’.
