Apple has introduced a new lower-spec iPhone 5c with just 8MB of memory. Previously the smartphone was only available in 16MB and 32MB versions.

An unlocked SIM-free Apple iPhone 5c costs £429 incl. VAT from an Apple store for the 8MB version, compared with £469 for the 16MB version. The better-specified iPhone 5s starts at £549 for the 16MB version.

There’s also a change to the iPad range. Apple’s iPad 2 - retained as the lowest-price 9.7-inch iPad when the iPad Air was launched - has been dropped in favour of the previously-discontinued 16MB iPad 4, which has a high-resolution ‘Retina’ display. Pricing is unchanged from the iPad 2: £329 for the WiFi-only model.
