Nokia and Sony Ericsson named as the next mobile brands to disappear

Mark Bridge writes:

Online financial news and commentary site 24/7 Wall St has published a list of ten brands it thinks will disappear next year. Among those named on the list of doom are Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

However, this isn’t just another organisation jumping on the Nokia-kicking bandwagon. 24/7 Wall St put T-Mobile USA (being taken over by AT&T) and Palm (incorporated into HP) on previous lists, so - even though it’s not always right - it’s been accurate on a number of occasions in the past.

Redundancies and recent drops in sales figures have put Sony Ericsson on the 2012 dodo list, with a takeover by Sony being suggested as a possible option for the company. Meanwhile, Nokia is named as a potential target for HTC, Microsoft, Samsung or LG.

As someone who predicted a Microsoft takeover of Nokia for 2011 (as part of an implausible Intel merger, I admit!), it’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
