Former BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins is appointed as new head of wireless power business Powermat

Wireless charging specialist Powermat Technologies has appointed Thorsten Heins as its new Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the board.

Mr Heins was CEO and President of BlackBerry before leaving the company when it reorganised a year ago. Powermat’s outgoing CEO, company company founder Ran Poliakine, will now serve as Vice Chairman of the Powermat board.

Ran Poliakine said “Thorsten possesses the rare combination of deep technological and industry expertise with true leadership ability. Powermat is poised at an important juncture in its evolution and Thorsten will lead its expansion to take the wireless charging solutions we created into the mainstream. I look forward to working closely with Thorsten as Powermat advances toward a bright future.”

Powermat is working with companies including Delta Airlines, Duracell, General Motors and Starbucks to expand the adoption of its wireless power technology.
