Nokia has announced an update to the Symbian operating system, along with two new smartphone devices.

The new OS upgrade has a name rather than a number. It’s called Symbian Anna and promises new icons, improved usability, a faster browser, better maps and an assortment of other tweaks. Anna will be pre-installed on the two new devices and will be available as a download for previous Symbian v3 handsets.

Nokia’s new phones are the Nokia E6 and the Nokia X7. The Nokia E6 is a business phone with a full QWERTY keypad, while the Nokia X7 is an entertainment-focused smartphone with a 4-inch screen.

In addition, Nokia says its Ovi Store is now seeing 5 million downloads per day and currently hosts more than 40,000 applications.
