Samsung Electronics has added a new water-resistant smart watch to its portfolio of wearable devices. The Tizen-based Samsung Gear S is equipped with a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display and 3G + WiFi connectivity, allowing it to work without a smartphone when required. However, it also has a Bluetooth connection that’ll let it synchronise with the user’s main phone.

There’s an on-screen keyboard option as well as voice control and sensors for fitness apps.

JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile communication at Samsung Electronics, said “Samsung is leading this exciting and rapidly developing wearable category through progressive innovation. The Samsung Gear S redefines the idea of the smart wearable and the culture of mobile communication. It will let consumers live a truly connected life anywhere, anytime.”

Announced alongside the Samsung Gear S was the new Samsung Gear Circle Bluetooth headset. Availability of both devices is expected from October.
