Zurich-based mobile software company Myriad Group has announced a new technology solution called Myriad Alien Dalvik.

Alien Dalvik enables Android applications to operate on other platforms and devices, allowing app stores to repackage Android APK files and offer them on non-Android phones. It’s based on the company’s Dalvik Turbo, which speeds up Android app performance.

The company says Alien Dalvik is completely transparent to users, with transformed apps appearing as ‘native’.

Simon Wilkinson, Chief Executive Officer of Myriad Group, said “The proliferation of Android has been staggering, but there is still room for growth. By extending Android to other platforms, we are opening up the market even further, creating new audiences and revenue opportunities.”

Myriad Alien Dalvik will be made available later this year on the MeeGo platform; other platform support is due to be announced in the coming months.

Myriad was created in 2009 from the combination of Esmertec and Purple Labs.
