Sony has confirmed it’s working on a PlayStation mobile application. In a post on the PlayStation blog, the company says the app will be launched “very soon”.

Juniper Research has calculated that revenue from in-game purchases by mobile phone users will overtake the pay-per-download pricing model for mobile games by 2013. Total end-user revenue is expected to exceed $11 billion (£7 billion) per year by 2015, nearly double the $6 billion figure from 2009.

Nokia has announced that its Ovi Store is now seeing 3 million downloads per day. It’s also had more than 400,000 new developers join Forum Nokia in the past 12 months has 92 developers who’ve achieved more than a million downloads for their apps.

O2 UK is offering the new motion-sensitive Kinect for Xbox 360 video gaming device in selected stores as part of a Christmas upgrade package for its customers.

Three UK has published a breakdown of the amount of data used by its mobile broadband customers; people connecting to the internet using a mobile broadband 'dongle' or a MiFi mobile WiFi router.

Social network Facebook is the most popular service based on data usage, followed by social gaming site Zynga.

Mark Windle, head of marketing at OpenCloud, predicts that this year’s reduction in the number of traditional telecoms operators in some countries will provide an opportunity for other operators to innovate and capture market share in 2016.

He says next year will be a year of rapid change for telecoms… whether it’s MVNO disruption, competitive tariff pricing or simply defence from the ‘dark art’ of hacking.
