TalkTalk acquires Tesco broadband and fixed-line voice customers... and Blinkbox Movies, too

TalkTalk Group, which started life as part of Carphone Warehouse before demerging in 2010, has bought the Tesco broadband and fixed-line voice base from Tesco plc.

This gives it around 75,000 broadband customers and around 20,000 voice customers, which will be transferred to the TalkTalk network.

A new report reveals that 95% of people in the UK say they “wouldn’t struggle” without a landline at home.

In addition, more than half of all respondents said they used their mobile phones more at home than anywhere else.

Ofcom confirms plans to simplify UK phone call charges from 2015

Clearer pricing for numbers beginning 08, 09 and 118

UK telecoms regulator Ofcom says it’ll simplify fixed-line and mobile phone call charges from 2015.

There’ll be clearer pricing for ‘non-geographic’ numbers that start 08, 09 and 118. In addition, calls that begin 080 will always be free from mobile phones as well as from landlines.
