Braille mobile phone released by UK-based OwnFone

A customisable Braille mobile phone for blind or sight-impaired customers has been announced by London-based business OwnFone.

The device has up to four pre-programmed memory buttons that can be printed with braille or raised text.

It’s being sold for £60 (two buttons) or £67.50 (four buttons) from the OwnFone web site. Customers also need to sign up to a mobile phone contract, with charges from £7.50 per month including a call allowance of 50 minutes.

We reported the launch of custom-printed mobile phones in 2011 by CyCell, which operated its own virtual mobile network. OwnFone was originally a brand created by CyCell Limited, which appointed administrators in December. OwnFone Limited was established as a new company in December 2013.
