What would you say to a tiny little device that enabled you to recharge your smartphone almost anywhere, whenever you wanted?

This is pretty much what a US-based company called Nomad is promising. In fact, they sent me two of their latest products to try.

Nomad Digital, which specialises in providing wireless communications for buses and trains, has been chosen to install Eurostar’s new e320 fleet with WiFi for passengers.

It’s been contracted by Siemens to provide WiFi on ten new trains before they’re delivered.

UK-based Nomad Digital, which specialises in providing WiFi services on buses and trains, has acquired the technology and support operations of Danish business CM Technology.

CMT, which is based in Copenhagen, provides passenger information systems on public transport and in transport hubs.

The entire fleet of 47 trains operated by Translink NI Railways in Northern Ireland is being equipped with free WiFi.

Nomad Digital, which has already implemented wireless internet access on Amtrak and Virgin Trains, expects the full roll-out to be completed by the autumn.

Mark Windle, head of marketing at OpenCloud, predicts that this year’s reduction in the number of traditional telecoms operators in some countries will provide an opportunity for other operators to innovate and capture market share in 2016.

He says next year will be a year of rapid change for telecoms… whether it’s MVNO disruption, competitive tariff pricing or simply defence from the ‘dark art’ of hacking.
