Apple appoints Jeff Williams as new COO

First Chief Operating Officer since Tim Cook

Apple has named Jeff Williams as its new Chief Operating Officer; a role that was previously held by Tim Cook until his promotion to CEO in 2011.

The company also says that Johny Srouji is being made a member of Apple’s executive team as senior vice president for Hardware Technologies, Tor Myhren is joining the company next year from advertising specialists Grey as vice president of Marketing Communications, and Phil Schiller - current senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing - is having his role expanded to include leadership of the App Store across all Apple platforms.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said “We are fortunate to have incredible depth and breadth of talent across Apple’s executive team. As we come to the end of the year, we’re recognizing the contributions already being made by two key executives. Jeff is hands-down the best operations executive I’ve ever worked with, and Johny’s team delivers world-class silicon designs which enable new innovations in our products year after year.”

Jeff Williams joined Apple in 1998 as head of worldwide procurement, becoming vice president of Operations in 2004.
