MACH introduces mobile operator billing for UK online payments and app purchases

Mobile billing specialist MACH is launching direct mobile operator billing for online payments and app purchases in the UK. The service, which uses the MACH Direct Billing Gateway and includes support for the Payforit scheme, will be available via all the UK’s major mobile phone networks.

Direct mobile operator billing enables mobile subscribers to pay for apps and other online goods by charging them to their mobile phone account. This UK launch allows app stores and content providers to include operator billing without needing to set up individual agreements with UK network operators. In-app billing on UK networks will become available shortly.

Michael De Jongh, Global Head of Sales for Mobile Billing and Payments at MACH, said “Through our Direct Billing Gateway, a service we pioneered in 2007, MACH offers the most comprehensive direct operator billing services available. We provide the glue that unites application stores, content providers and merchants with operators and simplifies the apps ecosystem. Payforit Version 4 creates huge value for UK consumers, as with it they know that their purchases are governed by the Payforit Version 4 scheme rules, providing a trusted and safe framework for payments. The Payforit scheme will accelerate the monetization of services for developers whilst ensuring consumer confidence in what they are buying.”

MACH has also been chosen to help VoIP company Skype offer direct operator billing.

We spoke to Guy Reiffer of MACH about generating revenue from roaming services and applications at Mobile World Congress last year. You can listen to the interview (which starts at 21:40) via the built-in audio player or by downloading the MP3 file.

Predictions for 2016: Network Function Virtualisation, 4G throttling and video calling

Mark Windle, head of marketing at OpenCloud, predicts that this year’s reduction in the number of traditional telecoms operators in some countries will provide an opportunity for other operators to innovate and capture market share in 2016.

He says next year will be a year of rapid change for telecoms… whether it’s MVNO disruption, competitive tariff pricing or simply defence from the ‘dark art’ of hacking.

Kapture review: the audio-recording wristband

A 'recording watch' that links to your smartphone

Mark Bridge writes:

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.

Device detection and responsive design explained

Mark Bridge writes:

James Rosewell shows me a colourful roll of paper that's the width of an iPhone but well over three metres long. When I look closer, I can see it's a printed copy of the Wall Street Journal's mobile website. That's a lot of scrolling to do... and a pretty unfriendly user experience for anyone reading the news online. Why does it work so badly?
