The UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has intervened in the sale of smartphone chip producer ARM Limited to NVIDIA Corporation. The $40 billion sale agreement was announced between NVIDIA and Softbank, ARM's current owner, in September 2020.

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority has asked interested parties to comment on the potential impact of the planned $40 billion NVIDIA Corporation takeover of UK-based chip designer Arm Limited. A formal investigation is expected later this year.

Computer graphics pioneer NVIDIA is acquiring UK-based mobile chip specialist Arm in a deal that's valued at $40 billion (approximately £31 billion). It's buying Arm Ltd from SoftBank, which acquired the company four years ago.

Even though the first mainstream 64-bit mobile processor was only launched towards the end of 2013, new figures from ABI Research show this type of chip will dominate the mobile market within the next five years.

Apple’s 64-bit A7 processor had been shipped in more than 36 million iPhones and iPads within the first three months of launch. It was followed by Intel, Marvell, MediaTek, Qualcomm and Nvidia all announcing their first 64-bit mobile processors at Mobile World Congress 2014.

Google has teamed up with technology company NVIDIA and motor manufacturers Audi, GM, Honda and Hyundai to create the Open Automotive Alliance.

It’s a partnership that aims to bring the Android platform to more cars.

Ah, the joys of multiplying by zero. I was reminded of my school maths lessons when I saw a news release from Orange UK this week.

Steve Wallage, Head of Sport Partnerships and Services for Orange UK was quoted as saying “Based on the surge in demand for mobile TV during the Ashes last summer, we expect viewing figures could rocket by at least 74% during the World Cup”.
