A new report from wireless analyst firm Berg Insight predicts there’ll be 1 billion cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) subscribers by 2022.

It says the number of cellular M2M customers worldwide increased by 23% last year to a total of 265.2 million.

HTC has announced a Windows Phone version of its flagship HTC One smartphone in the USA.

The HTC One (M8) for Windows shares many of the Android-powered M8’s features, including the all-metal casing, the large sensor ‘UltraPixel’ camera and the front-facing stereo speakers.

Last year AT&T, T‑Mobile and Verizon rolled out their Isis mobile payment service across the USA.

However, recent international news headlines have used the acronym ISIS to refer to a group of fighters in Syria and Iraq.

The Isis mobile commerce joint venture from AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless is now available to use across the USA.

It was originally announced in November 2010 and launched pilot schemes in the states of Texas and Utah last year.

Andy Halford is leaving his role as Vodafone Group’s Chief Financial Officer.

He’ll depart at the end of March 2014 after Vodafone’s deal with Verizon Communications is completed.

Steve Wallage, Head of Sport Partnerships and Services for Orange UK was quoted as saying “Based on the surge in demand for mobile TV during the Ashes last summer, we expect viewing figures could rocket by at least 74% during the World Cup”.

I loved the film WarGames. I saw it in the cinema when it came out… and developed a minor crush on Ally Sheedy as a result. If you don’t remember the film – or haven’t seen it – the plot centres on a young computer hacker who almost starts World War III while playing an illicit online game of Global Thermonuclear War with a military computer.
