Mobile ad requests from Apple devices overtake Nokia in Europe

Independent mobile advertising network InMobi has released its latest Mobile Insights Report. As well as showing that the total number of mobile advertising impressions in Europe grew by 21% from Q1 to Q2 2011, it also revealed that the number of ads shown on Apple devices had overtaken ad impressions on Nokia devices.

InMobi served over 104.9 billion mobile advertising impressions worldwide in the second quarter of 2011, of which 10.8 billion were in Europe. 19.5% of these European ads were seen on Apple devices, 18.7% on Nokia devices and 17.5% on Samsung devices. Apple ad impressions were up 3.3 percentage points while Nokia impressions were down 0.9 points. There was no quarter-on-quarter percentage change for Samsung.

Android remains the top platform (by ad requests) with a 24.9% share, followed by Apple with 19.5% and RIM with 15.7%. Android lost share in the quarter, while Apple and RIM both gained.

Rob Jonas, VP and MD Europe and Middle East at InMobi, said “The Q2 2011 results show another major inflection point for mobile advertising in Europe. Smart devices, driven by iPad, iPhone, and Android devices, are now defining the mobile experience for the majority of Europeans. The next phase of mobile advertising is upon us. It is now up to brands and agencies to capitalise with immersive, creative experiences delivered at scale for consumers.”

Globally, the InMobi network grew by 23.4% from Q1 to Q2 this year. 38% of the company’s ad impressions are now from smartphone devices.

It’s all been done before

Mark Bridge writes:

No-one really likes an anticlimax. That was my biggest complaint about the launch of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7. Plenty of potential, a nice new interface – but nothing much that wasn’t being done elsewhere.
