Tesco says it’s stopped working on its Hudl-branded smartphone so that it can concentrate on tablets.
Earlier this year the retailer revealed plans to build on the success of its Hudl tablet with a smartphone launch in 2014.
However, Tesco Group Multichannel Director Robin Terrell says he took a decision in July to “put the phone on hold and concentrate on the Hudl 2 tablet”. In a blog post for Tesco staff he said “As we developed the idea in the first few months of the year, we could see a gap we could fill for our customers. The technology sector is fast changing and constantly evolving and since then, the mobile market has become even more competitive.”
The new Hudl 2 is expected to have a larger screen than its 7-inch predecessor when it launched in the next few weeks.
