Deutsche Telekom invests in Jawbone and becomes partner for European expansion

Jawbone, which recently diversified from its focus on Bluetooth headsets and loudspeakers to produce the UP health-tracking wristband, has just announced it’s received $40 million in new funding.

The current round of funding came from Deutsche Telekom, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, entrepreneur Yuri Milner and investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management. It means the company has now received approaching $210 million from various investors.

That’s what’s happening over at HP, which is making its webOS software available to the open source community. The big question now is whether developers will respond with “lovely, just what I wanted” or a slightly embarrassed “oh, I’ve already got one of those.”

Jawbone introduces refund scheme for UP mobile health wristbands

Things haven’t been running smoothly for the Jawbone UP mobile health product.

The UP wristband was announced in July and then went on sale in the USA last month. It works in conjunction with an iPhone application to help track the wearer’s activity, sleep and eating habits.
