WorldPay partners with MoBank for mobile payment service

Payment processing provider WorldPay has announced a partnership with UK-based m-commerce platform provider The MoBank Group. The deal will make it easier for WorldPay customers to take advantage of mobile commerce as they’ll all have access to MoBank’s MoPowered secure mobile commerce system.

MoPowered offers retailers the combination of a mobile application and a mobile-optimised website. The system is fully compatible with online security schemes such as ‘Verified By Visa’ and MasterCard SecureCode.

Dominic Keen, co-founder and CEO of The MoBank Group, said “We are delighted to partner with WorldPay to help all their merchants build revenues by processing secure transactions though the mobile channel. Mobile commerce is an essential part of multi-channel retail. The market has grown by 25% in the past six months and Gartner Research has predicted that it could account for up to 12.5% of e-commerce transactions by 2013. Optimising websites and creating native applications for smartphones is already a necessity for merchants as 20 million people connected to the web from their mobile phone in the UK in the last year.”

Recent research conducted by WorldPay found that nearly a quarter of consumers used their mobile for shopping, with this figure reaching 50% among iPhone users.

We spoke to Steve Townend, co-founder of MoBank, in August 2009 and again in November 2010. You can listen to the full interviews on our website, via iTunes or by downloading the MP3 files.

Apple iPhone SMS text spoofing: whose fault is it?

Mark Bridge writes:

Last week, French iOS security researcher pod2g revealed a potential security risk with the Apple iPhone’s handling of SMS text messages.

All text messages can be sent with an optional ‘reply to’ telephone number that’s different from the sender’s number. The majority of text messages don’t use this feature - and many phones either ignore the extra data or display both numbers - but Apple’s iOS seems to handle it in a potentially risky way.
