Microsoft and Quanta Computer have signed a patent agreement to cover Quanta under Microsoft’s patent portfolio for producing tablets, smartphones and other devices running the Android and Chrome platforms. Quanta joins the ranks of Samsung, HTC, ViewSonic, Acer and several other manufacturers that produce Android-based equipment.
Horacio Gutierrez, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel of the Intellectual Property Group at Microsoft, said “We are pleased to have reached this agreement with Quanta, and proud of the continued success of our Android licensing program in resolving IP issues surrounding Android and Chrome devices in the marketplace.”
Although Quanta’s own brand isn’t particularly well known, the company has been linked with production of the new Amazon Kindle Fire and the BlackBerry PlayBook.
