Computer graphics pioneer NVIDIA is acquiring UK-based mobile chip specialist Arm in a deal that's valued at $40 billion (approximately £31 billion). It's buying Arm Ltd from SoftBank, which acquired the company four years ago.

More than half of all new mobile devices will be running 64-bit processors in 2018, according to ABI Research

Even though the first mainstream 64-bit mobile processor was only launched towards the end of 2013, new figures from ABI Research show this type of chip will dominate the mobile market within the next five years.

Apple’s 64-bit A7 processor had been shipped in more than 36 million iPhones and iPads within the first three months of launch. It was followed by Intel, Marvell, MediaTek, Qualcomm and Nvidia all announcing their first 64-bit mobile processors at Mobile World Congress 2014.

Open Automotive Alliance aims to bring Android to more cars

Audi, GM, Google, Honda, Hyundai and NVIDIA working together

Google has teamed up with technology company NVIDIA and motor manufacturers Audi, GM, Honda and Hyundai to create the Open Automotive Alliance.

It’s a partnership that aims to bring the Android platform to more cars.

Has Apple just patented the touchscreen?

Imagine a mobile phone that can’t be built without the permission of Apple. Impossible?  Unrealistic?  Not necessarily.

This week, Apple was awarded US patent 7,966,578. It's an application that was originally filed at the end of 2007, almost a year after the iPhone was first revealed.

There's more to NFC than mobile payments... and there's more to mobile payments than NFC.

The latest audio accessories from Nokia use 'contactless' NFC technology to speed up Bluetooth connections. Simply touch a compatible Nokia phone against the Play 360° loudspeaker and your music will play through the speaker. There's no need to bother with conventional Bluetooth pairing.
