Ofcom appoints Sharon White as Chief Executive from March 2015

UK communications regulator Ofcom says Sharon White will become its new Chief Executive from late March next year. She’s currently Second Permanent Secretary at HM Treasury, where she is responsible for managing public finance.

Current Ofcom CEO Ed Richards steps down from his role at the end of this month after leading the organisation for eight years. Steve Unger, Director of the Strategy, International, Technology and Economist Group at Ofcom, will then be Acting Chief Executive until Sharon White takes over.

Ofcom Chairman, Dame Patricia Hodgson, said “Sharon brings with her an outstanding combination of intellect, political acumen and experience leading complex public organisations. The Ofcom Board is confident that Sharon will provide the leadership and vision to ensure Ofcom continues to promote a thriving communications sector in the UK that operates in the public interest.”
