Vodafone Group plc and CK Hutchison Group Telecom Holdings Limited have agreed to combine their UK telecommunication businesses, respectively Vodafone UK and Three UK. The merger will create a large new network operator to compete with Virgin Media O2 and EE.

Two of the world's communications giants have agreed to merge their UK operations. Liberty Global will combine its Virgin Media UK broadband network with Telefonica's O2 UK mobile business.

The European Commission has blocked the proposed merger of Telefonica UK’s O2 network with Hutchison’s Three.

It said it was concerned that the deal would have harmed innovation, reduced consumer choice and caused prices to rise.

Unlimited mobile data. Once upon a time, it seemed that everyone offered it. Not that mobile data was ever really unlimited – there tended to be a ‘fair usage’ clause tucked away in the terms and conditions – but the word ‘unlimited’ was used a lot.
