Dame Patricia Hodgson has been announced by the government as the next chair of UK communications regulator Ofcom.
Ofcom’s current chair, Colette Bowe, will step down at the end of March 2014 after serving her five-year term in the role.
After joining the Ofcom Board in July 2011 Dame Patricia was appointed as Deputy Chair last year. She’s a former TV producer and journalist who was the BBC’s Director of Policy & Planning and later became Chief Executive of the Independent Television Commission.
Maria Miller, the UK government Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, said “I am delighted to appoint Dame Patricia and know she will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the organisation in her role as Chair. Her time as Deputy Chair means she has a thorough understanding of the communications industry and the challenges facing Ofcom.”
