Samsung reveals 'smart watch' with built-in 3G connectivity

Samsung Electronics has added a new water-resistant smart watch to its portfolio of wearable devices.

The Tizen-based Samsung Gear S is equipped with a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display and 3G + WiFi connectivity, allowing it to work without a smartphone when required.

Opera Software says it’s signed a licensing agreement that’ll result in Opera Mini becoming the default web browser for Microsoft’s existing portfolio of feature phones.

The deal covers mobile phones based on the Series 30+, Series 40 and Asha software platforms.

3G and 4G technology will dominate mobile M2M by 2018, says new report

A new research report from Berg Insight says the market for mobile machine-to-machine (M2M) communications has begun to move from the 2G to 3G and 4G technologies.

Although cellular M2M devices on HSPA and LTE networks are expected to account for under 20% of the global market by the end of 2014, they’re forecast to dominate with more than 50% by 2018. Meanwhile, shipments of 3G/4G M2M devices are expected to overtake 2G M2M in 2017.
