WiFi platform provider Devicescape says Virgin Media has signed a contract for the supply of its WiFi service platform, which will make it easier for customers to connect to WiFi hotspots outside the house.
Devicescape currently manages a ‘curated virtual network’ of 20 million hotspots worldwide. It expects to have 1.1 million of these hotspot locations in the UK by 2017.

Consumers feel that mobile operators would be more proficient in providing Over-The-Top (OTT) services than current OTT providers, according to a recent survey.
The study was carried out across the UK, the USA and Europe for telecoms software specialist OpenCloud by market research agency YouGov.

The Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) and Power Matters Alliance (PMA) have signed an agreement aimed at enabling these wireless power standards to work with each other.
PMA has previously focussed on inductive wireless charging technology, with installations in some Starbucks and McDonald’s stores, while A4WP - which uses the Rezence brand - has developed a magnetic resonance technical specification.

App research specialist VisionMobile has published the latest version of its Developer Economics report, providing insights into mobile application development worldwide.
It estimates that 2.3 million people were mobile app developers in 2013, with 760,000 (32.9%) of them living in Asia and 680,000 (29.7%) in Europe.
