The GSMA has announced the nominees for the 16th Annual Global Mobile Awards. The winners will be announced at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 15th February 2011.
In total, 115 companies have been nominated in ten categories.

Mobile World Congress is the mobile industry event of the year. It takes place in Barcelona from 14th February this year – and The Fonecast will be heading there to listen to the keynote speeches, attend the briefings and interview many of the visitors.

The GSMA has created two new mobile application challenges that’ll be rewarded at the 2011 Mobile World Congress.
The first-ever GSMA Band App Audition has the backing of Muse, Faithless, Metric and Eliza Doolittle. It’s looking for innovative mobile app concepts that’ll help the artists to engage with their fans throughout the world.

The GSMA says the city that hosts the Mobile World Congress from 2013 to 2017 – currently a choice between Amsterdam, Barcelona, Cologne, Milan, Munich and Paris – will also be the GSMA’s “Mobile World Capital”. This concept extends beyond the Mobile World Congress trade event to include a permanent technology centre and a cultural festival in the chosen city.

The Digital Communications Knowledge Transfer Network has worked with UK Trade & Investment to create a competition for UK-based SMEs that have an innovative new mobile/wireless solution or product.
It's offering free exhibition places on the UKTI stand at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from 14th to 17th February 2011.
