Online retailer Amazon has announced its first smartphone.
The new device is simply known as Fire - the same branding used to differentiate the company’s multimedia tablets - and will launch next week on the AT&T network in the USA. There is no news about UK availability.

Four Activity Trackers sold for every Smartwatch, according to ABI Research
Wearable device sales in the first quarter of 2014 were dominated by ‘activity trackers’, according to a new report from ABI Research.
It says these fitness-related devices outsold smartwatches by four to one.

Figures from digital marketing specialist eMarketer anticipate a 25% year-on-year growth in the number of smartphone owners worldwide.
By the end of 2014, the company expects that 1.76 billion people will own smartphones and use them at least once a month.

Cheshire-based telecom business Chess has acquired the UK airtime division of Avenir Telecom Group.
The 55 former Avenir Telecom employees will continue to work from their office in Hertfordshire, while Avenir UK Managing Director Andy Tow will become MD of the new Chess Partner Services division.
