Jury decides Samsung owes Apple another $290 million for patent infringement

A jury in the USA has decided that Samsung needs to pay Apple $290 million (£179 million) for infringing patents related to its iPhone and iPad products.

Last year a jury said Samsung had to pay $1.05 billion, although a judge later ruled that the jury had miscalculated.

Doro pre-loads AVG AntiVirus on its new Android smartphone

Easy-to-use smartphone manufacturer Doro has agreed a deal that’ll see AVG AntiVirus Pro software pre-loaded on the Doro Liberto 810 smartphone.

Customers buying the Liberto will receive a year’s licence to use the mobile security app free of charge.

BYOD will claim over a third of consumer-owned mobile devices by 2018, says new report

A new report from Juniper Research predicts that almost 35% of consumer-owned tablets and smartphones will be used as part of a ‘bring your own device’ scheme at work by 2018.

That’s over a billion devices in total.

Acer appoints co-founder Stan Shih to the roles of Chairman and interim President

Computer and smartphone manufacturer Acer says its board of directors has elected Stan Shih, one of the company’s original co-founders, as Chairman and interim Corporate President.

It’s also removing the role of CEO, giving these duties to either the Chairman or the President.
