Rail passengers to benefit from improved mobile data connections

The UK government has announced plans for faster and better mobile broadband connections on railway journeys.

Mobile signal on the busiest parts of the rail network will be improved by upgrading Network Rail’s existing infrastructure and installing new ‘Mobile Communications Gateway’ equipment on trains.

Interbrand Best Global Brands report: Apple pushes Coca-Cola off the top spot

After 13 years at the top of Interbrand’s Best Global Brands report, Coca-Cola has been pushed off the top spot by two mobile-focussed companies.

Apple has moved up the chart to number 1, with Google following in the number 2 position.

Number of mobile users accessing adult content is expected to rise 30% in next four years

More people watching adult videos, photos and live cams on their phones

A new report from Juniper Research shows that 250 million people will use their smartphone or tablet to access adult content by 2017, an increase of over 30% from current usage.

This increase is expected to result from high-definition, niche-centric products for consumers as well as increasing availability of mobile-optimised free content.

100 million users for Samsung's ChatON instant messaging service

Samsung Electronics says its ChatON cross-platform messaging service now has more than 100 million users worldwide.

The service was launched two years ago and offers a variety of options including text chat, voice chat, video chat and file sharing.

Things didn’t look so bad in the mobile industry last week. After the shock of BlackBerry’s job losses and restructuring, it seemed as though the saga could be reaching a conclusion. On Monday shareholder Fairfax Financial announced a bid to buy the company. BlackBerry’s board of directors has approved the terms of the agreement, although it’s still able to consider alternative proposals as well.
