EE has committed to investing £1.5 billion on its network by the end of 2017 as part of a new manifesto called ‘Signalling the Future’.
It’s promising to deliver voice and 4G data coverage across 90% of the UK’s geography, which would exceed its current 2G footprint.
CEO says "It's not about who's got the most coverage"
Vodafone has published a blog post in which it talks to UK CEO Jeroen Hoencamp about 4G LTE coverage. The network notes that it currently covers around 50% of the UK population with its 4G service.
And its CEO insists that the 4G rollout is progressing at its current speed for very specific reasons.
EE, which is currently talking to BT about a possible takeover deal, says it added 5.7 million customers to its 4G UK network in 2014.
This gives it a total of 7.7 million customers, beating its year-end target of 6 million.
Vodafone has signed a 15-year agreement with outdoor advertising company JCDecaux to deploy ‘small cells’ on street furniture and billboards, which will improve network performance.
It’s a global deal that follows a successful pilot programme where Vodafone Netherlands installed over 160 small cells on bus shelters in Amsterdam.
