Intel to buy Infineon's Wireless Solutions business for around $1.4 billion

Intel says it plans to buy WLS, Infineon's Wireless Solutions business, for around $1.4 billion.

The deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2011.

Ofcom wants 2.6GHz spectrum for wireless cameras during 2012 Olympics

Telecomms regulator Ofcom says recent growth in the use of wireless cameras in sports coverage has led to it taking another look at its plans for the 2.6GHz radio spectrum. It had originally left the 2500-2690MHz band out of its plans for the London 2012 Games (which take place from 27th July to 9th September 2012) because it had thought this band would be used for mobile data by then.

Unlimited Internet means just 1GB at O2

James Rosewell writes:

Yesterday I received the following text message from O2: “You’ve gone over your data allowance on your mobile. You need to cut down or get a bigger Bolt On to keep using the internet.” I thought this was strange as I’ve an unlimited data bolt on applied to my O2 UK contract so I decided to telephone O2 customer services to find out a little bit more. UK trial of LTE mobile broadband technology using old analogue TV spectrum

Clear Mobitel Ltd says it'll carry out the UK’s first live consumer trial of Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in the 800MHz 'digital dividend' spectrum.

This radio frequency band was previously occupied by analogue TV transmissions until last year's digital switchover.
