Samsung Electronics has announced a new Android-powered premium smartphone called the Galaxy Alpha.
The Galaxy Alpha is surrounded by a metal frame and is less than 7mm deep.

Apple and Samsung have decided to end all legal action against each other, with the exception of cases in the USA.

A new quarterly report from ABI Research show that shipments of ‘forked’ Android smartphones - those that use the Android Open Source Project rather than Google’s own version of Android - accounted for 20% of the smartphone market in Q2 2014.
Shipments of AOSP smartphones increased by 20% from the previous quarter, while the total market grew by just 3%.

Microsoft’s Devices Group, which recently learned it was to lose thousands of jobs, has announced a new low-cost Windows Phone smartphone.
The Lumia 530 is described by Microsoft as “the most affordable Lumia to date” and will go on same next month for an estimated retail price of €85 before taxes and subsidies (£67 ex.VAT; £81 incl. VAT).
