RIM confirms that NFC-powered BlackBerry Tag will let users share information

Research In Motion says a new feature called BlackBerry Tag will be incorporated in the next BlackBerry 7 OS update.

It’ll allow users to share information via NFC by tapping their BlackBerry smartphones together. Customers will be able to share contact data, documents, URLs, photos and other multimedia content, as well as adding contacts on BlackBerry Messenger.

BlackBerry users suffer problems in the UK

Many UK BlackBerry users have been unable to access web and email services today.

The problem seems to involve one of RIM’s servers, because corporate customers with their own server don’t seem to have been affected.

US mobile payment venture gets new supporters

Isis, the US-based mobile commerce venture announced last November by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, has acquired a number of new supporters.

HTC, LG, Motorola Mobility, RIM, Samsung Mobile and Sony Ericsson all say they’ll be introducing NFC-enabled mobile devices compatible with the Isis technology standards. In addition, Isis is working with DeviceFidelity to add NFC functionality to other mobile devices.

RIM says 70 million people worldwide now use BlackBerry devices

Research In Motion has published its quarterly results for June, July and August.

Revenue in the second quarter was $4.2 billion, down 15% from the previous quarter and down 10% year-on-year. 73% of this was generated by hardware, 24% from service, and 3% by software and other sources.
