The new Adults’ Media Use and Attitudes Report 2013 from Ofcom shows that most UK smartphone owners have adopted security for their devices, with 75% using a screen lock and 50% having a SIM PIN.
Non-smartphone users are less security conscious; just 40% have a screen lock and only 20% protect their SIM card with a PIN code.

Apple’s results for the second quarter of its current financial year - the three months until 30th March 2013 - show quarterly revenue of $43.6 billion (£28.6 billion; up 11% year-on-year) and quarterly net profit of $9.5 billion (down 18%).
It’s the first drop in quarterly profit for several years.

Nokia has won a court injunction in Amsterdam that prevents HTC from using a microphone made by STMicroelectronics.
The microphone, which is part of the flagship HTC One smartphone, has apparently been developed exclusively for Nokia.
Quarterly results from EE show that 318,000 customers (2.3% of EE’s post-paid customer base) have signed up for the network’s 4G service in the first five months.
It says this means it’s on track to have more than one million 4G customers by the end of 2013.

US space agency NASA has launched three smartphone-powered satellites into orbit around the earth.
Each satellite uses a standard HTC Google Nexus One handset, which runs the Android operating system, although they’ve been given an external battery and a more powerful radio.
