Fon and mopay promise simpler mobile access to WiFi connections

Mobile payment solution provider mopay has announced a global partnership with Fon, which describes itself as the world's largest WiFi network.

Fon is enabling mopay mobile payments, making it easier for smartphone and tablet users to pay for access to a Fon hotspot. Customers will be able to get WiFi access simply by providing their mobile phone number and adding the Fon cost to their mobile account.

Nokia Siemens Networks has announced a 'Smart WLAN Connectivity Solution' that allows mobile networks to offload their traffic to WiFi without any break in service.

It removes any need to manually switch between WiFi and cellular broadband on mobile devices, helping mobile operators maintain network capacity.

Bango says half of all mobile connections it processes arrive via WiFi

Mobile analytics and payment company Bango says over 50% of mobile user connections to the internet are being made via WiFi.

A year ago the company calculated that 23% of mobile website visits were connected through WiFi.
