Cortado combines cloud desktop with mobile device management

Cortado, until now best known for its cloud desktop service and wireless printing solution, has announced a new service that combines cloud-based file storage with mobile device management and corporate network access.

Cortado Corporate Server 6.0 enables businesses to offer remote access to staff with iPhones, iPads, Android devices and BlackBerry smartphones. An organisation’s IT department can control devices and user activities without adversely affecting the overall user experience.

Facebook has announced plans to introduce an ‘App Center’ to its web pages and also to its iOS and Android applications.

It’s designed to encourage the use of mobile apps that link with Facebook.

VeriFone turns smartphones into point-of-sale payment terminals

Electronic payment solution provider VeriFone Systems has introduced a new US-based service that enables businesses to use smartphones to accept payments.

SAIL by VeriFone combines a plug-in card reader with a free iOS or Android mobile app and can be integrated with existing VeriFone countertop devices. It also offers banks, mobile developers and other businesses the ability to build their own payment or marketing solutions on top of VeriFone’s secure infrastructure.

Over a third of UK mobile gamers pay for their games

Market research company Newzoo has published new insights into the UK’s mobile gaming market.

The number of mobile gamers in the UK has grown by 18% year-on-year to 23.9 million people, with 75% of them playing on smartphones and 17% on tablets.

iPhone and iPad dominate business communications, says new Good Technology report

Good Technology, which provides a number of services to help businesses manage their mobile communications, has published its device activation report for the first quarter of 2012.

The report looks at the smartphones and tablet devices activated amongst Good’s enterprise customers, including company-owned handsets and ‘bring your own device’ equipment supplied by individual users.
