Shazam uses its music tagging technology to predict the hits of 2013

Shazam, the ‘media engagement’ company best known for its mobile music tagging technology, has published details of the most-tagged songs of 2012 and revealed its predictions of music artists it expects to hit the big time in 2013.

By comparing information about ‘breaking’ artists with trends indicated by Shazam’s data, the company expects French Montana, Bei Maejor, Aluna George, Joey Bada$$, Becky G, Angel Haze, Rhye, Tito Lopez, Baauer and Haim to become increasingly popular in 2013.

Vodafone creates new Group Enterprise unit as part of Cable & Wireless Worldwide integration

Vodafone Group plc is creating a new Group Enterprise unit that’ll be run by Nick Jeffery, currently CEO of Cable & Wireless Worldwide. It will start working on 1st January with Mr Jeffrey reporting directly to Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao.

The new unit will consist of four teams: Vodafone Global Enterprise, Vodafone Carrier Services, Machine-to-Machine solutions and Hosting and Cloud Services.

RIM introduces new prototype device for BlackBerry 10 developers

Earlier this year RIM introduced a touchscreen smartphone called the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha. It ran a modified version of the BlackBerry PlayBook OS and was designed to help developers test their BlackBerry 10 apps before the platform is launched officially in January 2013.

RIM has now added a second developer device; the BlackBerry Dev Alpha C.

Top UK mobile search terms of 2012

Mobile Commerce, a UK-based business that provides mobile search services to a number of network operators and other sites, has published an analysis of the words and phrases used when searching on mobile phones.

The company handles over 25% of searches from mobile internet users via UK operator portals and deals with 5 billion requests a year across the UK and USA.
