RIM shows developers more forthcoming BlackBerry 10 features

Research In Motion revealed more about its forthcoming BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system at its BlackBerry Jam developer conference in California yesterday.

BlackBerry 10, which is expected to be available on new BlackBerry devices early next year, is focussed on what RIM is calling ‘BlackBerry Flow’ - the idea that a BlackBerry device won’t slow you down. For example, BB10 can show all currently-running applications as small widgets rather than simply as icons.

New research says live sport is driving mobile video usage in the UK

A new survey conducted for online video specialist QuickPlay Media shows that live TV sport promises to drive the growth of mobile video in the UK.

52% of mobile video users in the UK watched at least one Olympic sporting event on either a smartphone or tablet, with most of them saying their mobile viewing had increased after watching a major sporting event on a mobile device. In addition, the number of consumers watching mobile video at work during the Olympics doubled to 18% from 9% in a non-Olympic average week.

International wireless equipment distributor Brightstar has acquired UK-based mobile phone trade-in business Mobile Phone Xchange.

MPX offers online recycling deals to consumers and also provides trade-in facilities for Vodafone shops.

MACH introduces mobile operator billing for UK online payments and app purchases

Mobile billing specialist MACH is launching direct mobile operator billing for online payments and app purchases in the UK. The service, which uses the MACH Direct Billing Gateway and includes support for the Payforit scheme, will be available via all the UK’s major mobile phone networks.

Direct mobile operator billing enables mobile subscribers to pay for apps and other online goods by charging them to their mobile phone account.
