Vodafone Ireland and Three Ireland agree to share network infrastructure

Vodafone Ireland and Three Ireland have agreed to set up a 50/50 joint venture company to share their physical network and site infrastructure across the country.

The deal, which has been rumoured for a few weeks, will see the two companies sharing around 2000 sites. As a result, Vodafone and Three will be able to reduce purchasing costs and potentially increase network coverage.

Two thirds of Americans are now choosing smartphones

New research from Nielsen in the USA shows that two out of three people who bought a new mobile phone in the past three months chose a smartphone and not a feature phone.

It means that 54.9% of US mobile customers currently own smartphones.

Brightstar Corporation to sell its 50% share of Brightstar Europe

Brightstar European operations will continue under a wholly-owned subsidiary

Brightstar Corporation has agreed to sell its 50% share of mobile communications distributor Brightstar Europe to Tech Data Corporation. The two companies, which both operate international distribution businesses, formed the joint venture in 2007.

Tech Data will pay Brightstar around $165.6 million for the deal, which is subject to regulatory approval. Brightstar Europe’s handset protection & insurance and buy-back & trade-in customers will be transferred to Brightstar as part of the agreement.

Every so often, I see a new product that I’d like to review. I’ll usually send a note to the relevant company, borrow a review copy and send it back when I’ve finished.

And every so often I’ll be approached by a company that wants me to review a product. Sometimes I’ll say yes, sometimes I’ll say no. It all depends whether or not I think I’m the right person for the job.

When IntSig offered me a copy of a mobile application called CamScanner, I wasn’t too sure. It seemed very clever... but I wasn’t convinced I’d have much use for it.

O2 UK service starts returning to normal

O2 UK service starts returning to normal

A network problem that disrupted O2’s mobile phone service in the UK yesterday is gradually being restored. O2 says all 2G services were returned to full working order this morning, with full 3G service expected to be restored today.

The problem prevented tens of thousands of mobile phones from making or receiving calls, text messages and online communication.
