Microsoft Corp. has announced quarterly revenue of $17.41 billion (£10.8 billion) for the period that ended 31st March 2012, which is a 6% increase year-on-year.
Operating income was $6.37 billion, up 12% from the same quarter in 2011. Net income was down slightly to $5.11 billion.

The UK has a new advertising-funded mobile phone network. It’s a virtual mobile network called Ovivo Mobile that’ll use the Vodafone network and has been developed through mobile virtual network aggregator Cognatel.
The SIM-only prepaid service will offer free monthly usage in exchange for targeted mobile advertising.

87 million 4G-equipped mobile devices are expected to ship worldwide this year, according to figures from ABI Research. That’s a 294% increase from last year’s total of 4G smartphones, USB dongles, tablets, portable WiFi hotspots and wireless broadband modems.
Most are expected to be LTE devices, with WiMAX now seeing less support.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau, whose members are responsible for selling 86% of online advertising in the USA, has published its Internet Advertising Revenue Report for 2011.
Total online ad revenue reached a new record of $31 billion, up 22% from the 2010 total.

UK-based Goode Intelligence has just published the third edition of its GI mSecurity Survey Report, revealing that 24% of participating organisations reported evidence of mobile malware within their business in 2011.
The figure was just 9% in 2010.
