ABI Research says 258 million mobile phones were shipped during the first three months of 2009, which is an 11% drop year-on-year. However, the quarterly figures are up on the previously predicted total of 253.5 million. ABI Research reckons the mobile industry’s annual figures for 2009 will be down around 8% on 2008.
A new internet application called ipadio has launched today, enabling people to broadcast themselves live on the internet from their mobile phone. ipadio broadcasts and records your telephone call, which means it can be used from any mobile phone and from almost anywhere in the world.
The service can be used for ‘phonecasting’ live events or for phone blogging. ipadio has been developed by digital communications company Nemisys and is free for consumer use (except for the calls, which are either to an 020 or an 0845 UK number).[Mark Bridge demonstrates the service]
