The Acer Group has launched a new online multimedia and application store called alive. It promises “a unique starting point for users, allowing them to browse, search, access, purchase, stream or download and play any type of digital content”. The service aims to deliver regularly-updated content that can be personalised for each user’s interests.

IMImobile, one of India's largest and fastest-growing mobile technology companies, has acquired UK-based mobile content and services provider WINplc. The resulting company will have a global workforce of over 600 people. Former WIN CEO Graham Rivers will become an Executive Director of IMImobile.

Research company comScore has published a survey comparing mobile usage and behaviour in Japan, the United States and Europe. It found significant differences between the three regions, with almost twice as many Japanese mobile users using their mobiles to go online (browsing, accessing applications or downloading content) as European users.

Research company comScore says the majority of people accessing mobile content through browsers and applications are now using smartphones. Its US-based research found that 55% of people using a mobile browser and 60% of those downloading a software application were doing so on a smartphone. Those figures were up year-on-year from 41% and 44% respectively.

The latest Mobile Consumer Briefing report from the Mobile Marketing Association and Lightspeed Research shows that 36% of UK mobile consumers expect to access websites once a week or more using their mobile phone over the next year.
