Mobile commerce business Monitise plc has agreed to acquire US-based mobile banking company Clairmail Inc. The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, values Clairmail at approximately £109 million.
Around 13 million end-users are currently served by the two businesses.

WiFi hotspot provider The Cloud is installing free WiFi at all 56 London Overground stations from this summer. Rollout is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The news follows just over a week after Virgin Media’s announcement that it’s installing WiFi services at London Underground stations.

Microsoft and Nokia are each committing to invest up to €9 million (a total of around £15 million) into a mobile application development program at Finland’s Aalto University during the next three years.
It’ll be called AppCampus, it starts from May 2012 and it’s been set up to encourage the creation of innovative mobile applications for the Windows Phone, Symbian and Series 40 platforms.

Mobile developers attending the BlackBerry 10 Jam conference in May will be the first to see RIM’s new development tools for its forthcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system.
In addition, developer attendees will receive the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha - a prototype smartphone running a modified version of the PlayBook OS.

It’s been a week of ups and downs for the mobile industry.
It started with good news as Apple – fresh from hitting 3 million new iPad sales – announced its plans to spend some of the $100 billion sitting in its decidedly non-mobile wallet. There’ll be a quarterly dividend and a share buy-back scheme.
