Mobile access to Twitter and LinkedIn has doubled in the past year

Research company comScore has published details of mobile social media usage across France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom; the ‘EU5’.

The information, which comes from comScore’s MobiLens service, shows that the number of people accessing social networks on mobile devices in the EU5 region grew by 44% in the last year.

This year will be the busiest ever for mobile malware, says McAfee

Intel-owned McAfee Labs has just published the McAfee Threats Report for the third quarter of 2011.

At the end of 2010, the security technology company anticipated there’d be 70 million unique mobile malware samples by the end of 2011… and it’s recently increased its prediction to 75 million unique malware samples, which would make 2011 the busiest year in mobile malware history.

UKTI searches for the UK's most innovative mobile company

UK Trade & Investment, the government department that helps UK companies succeed abroad and encourages overseas investment in the UK, is searching for the country’s most innovative mobile company.

The winner of the competition will be crowned ‘the UK’s Most Innovative Mobile Company’ at Mobile World Congress 2012.

Having read some of last week’s headlines, you might think the UK’s Communication Ombudsman has told mobile phone networks not to describe their data tariffs as ‘unlimited’ unless they really are. However, what’s actually happened is that one of the UK’s communication ombudsmen (ombudspeople?) has asked mobile operators to be clear about any limits, to stop unexpectedly high bills from building up and to tell customers before they exceed any limit. Better than nothing but hardly earth-shattering.

Shazam puts karaoke-style lyrics on all its iOS and Android apps

Music discovery service Shazam is rolling out its LyricPlay feature across all its free and paid apps for iOS and Android devices.

After Shazam has identified a song that’s playing, LyricPlay displays the song’s lyrics in time with the music.
