Multi-million dollar investment for mobile security company Lookout

Lookout Mobile Security has picked up a $40 million investment from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and a number of current investors.

The company says this new cash will be used to broaden its product offerings and help with its expansion.

Ofcom says complaint numbers from Three UK customers are rising

Ofcom has published its latest quarterly complaints data, showing the major telecoms providers that generated the most complaints between April and June 2011.

In the mobile sector, Ofcom received the most complaints about Three UK. The network - which was also top for complaints in the previous report - had 0.14 complaints per 1000 customers, an increase from the previous quarter. Ofcom says the increase in complaints seems to have been driven by customer billing and customer service issues.

Bambuser introduces live maps to track mobile video broadcasts

Live video broadcasting service Bambuser has launched a number of updates today.

A new ‘maps’ feature uses Google Maps to show where in the world live broadcasts are being made from. In addition, it’s possible to find broadcasts previously made from a specific location.

Budget Samsung smartphone joins Orange 'Quick Tap' mobile payment range

Orange and Barclaycard say the bada-powered Samsung Wave 578 will be the next mobile phone compatible with Quick Tap contactless payments in the UK.

The first phone, the Samsung Tocco Quick Tap, was revealed in May when the service launched.

The mobile learning market will almost treble in the next five years

The worldwide market for ‘mobile learning’ products and services will grow from $3.2 billion last year to reach $9.1 billion (approaching £5.9 billion) by 2015, according to a new report from Ambient Insight. That’s a compound annual growth rate of 22.7%.

Ambient Insight says the countries with the highest Mobile Learning growth rates are China, India and Indonesia; all have a growth rate of over 60% year-on-year.
