Google has announced the launch of a new service called Google+ ('Google Plus'). It's currently an invitation-only trial with "some rough edges", according to the company.
The Google+ project is seen by many as an alternative to Facebook, enabling users to create 'Circles' of friends.

US-based mobile payment service Square, which lets retailers use an Apple or Android device to accept credit card payments, has just raised $100 million in new funding.
It's also announced that technology analyst Mary Meeker is joining the board.

A new report from IHS Screen Digest says the market for gambling on mobile phones in the United Kingdom more than doubled in 2010.
Net revenue from mobile gambling hit £41 million last year, up from £19 million in 2009.
