Over 10 million UK consumers used mobile commerce last year, says research

10 million online consumers in the UK made a transaction using a mobile device last year, according to the results of a survey commissioned by customer behaviour analysis business Tealeaf.

Shopping was the most popular m-commerce activity, although financial transactions, travel bookings and insurance payments were also popular. The average consumer completed 4.4 mobile transactions per month.

Over a billion cameraphones will be sold worldwide this year

Research from Strategy Analytics has forecast that worldwide annual cameraphone sales will exceed 1 billion units for the first time in 2011.

Devices with sensors of eight megapixels and above are expected to be the fastest-growing segment, increasing 240% year-on-year.

Almost half the world's new smartphones will be running Android by the end of next year

49% of smartphones sold around the world will be running Android at the end of 2012, according to a report from Gartner.

Total worldwide smartphone sales are expected to reach 468 million units this year, which is 57.7% up year-on-year. Android is forecast to have 38.5% of those sales, making it the world's most popular mobile operating system.

Three new MVNOs on Everything Everywhere bring its total to 21

Everything Everywhere says another three new mobile virtual network operators will be launching on its network in the next month, bringing its total number of MVNOs to 21.

All three of the new virtual networks are connecting through mobile virtual network aggregator Transatel, which started working with Orange UK in October 2009.

More than a billion mobile devices have been embedded with Red Bend software

Mobile software management company Red Bend says its software has now been embedded in more than a billion mobile devices.

The first Red Bend enabled mobile device was the Siemens Mobile S65 phone, which started shipping at the end of 2005. In the five years since then, Red Bend’s software products have been included in more than 700 different devices.
