Opera Mini to be preinstalled on Brew and Android phones from INQ

Opera Software and Hutchison Whampoa-backed INQ have agreed to preinstall the Opera Mini mobile browser on a range of Android-powered INQ smartphones and BREW-based feature phones. They'll be rolled out in the UK this month.

More than 90 million people worldwide currently use the Opera Mini browser, which compresses data to shrink web pages by up to 90%.

Qualcomm and Gameloft agree to work together on HD mobile games

Qualcomm and Gameloft have signed an agreement that’ll see the two companies working together to bring high-quality games to mobile phones.

The companies, which have already have a working relationship, will start their new partnership by optimising Gameloft’s 'SpiderMan Total Mayhem HD','Real Football 2011 HD', 'GT Racing: Motor Academy HD' and 'Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus' for Android-based devices.

The National Day of Unplugging? There's an app...

America's second National Day of Unplugging, which takes place on 4th-5th March 2011, has a mobile phone application to encourage non-use of mobile phones.

The event is being coordinated by Reboot, a group that's trying to reinvent Jewish culture and traditions for the 21st Century. Reboot suggests that everyone - regardless of background or religion - can benefit from taking a day off to relax and 'unplug' from their working week.

Cell phones cause increased brain activity

A new study finds that an hour-long cell phone call causes a spike in biochemical activity in the user's brain. The researchers can't say whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but the finding has renewed the debate over cell phone safety and raised calls for more health studies.

A third of adults are mobile gamers, says research

New figures from PopCap Games have shown large increases in the usage and frequency of mobile game playing among US and UK adults.

33.6% of all adults in the USA and the United Kingdom say they've played a game on their mobile phone handset in the past month, with almost a quarter (24.6%) having played in the past week. The figure was much higher for smartphone users; 83% of them had played in the past week.
