UK government announces emergency laws for telephone and internet records

The UK government has announced plans for new ‘emergency’ laws to allow telephone and internet data to be retained.

It follows a ruling in April by the European Court of Justice that said Europe’s Data Retention Directive was invalid because it didn’t contain enough safeguards.

ASA says Three UK 'free 0800 calls' advertising wasn't clear enough

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that a TV advertisement for Three didn’t explain the network’s free calls policy clearly enough.

A total of eleven people challenged the claim “we’ve made 0800 numbers free” because this only applied to new customers or new 24-month contracts.

Over 2 billion smartphones expected to be shipped in 2018

Although smartphone sales don’t have the dramatic year-on-year growth they once had, ABI Research has published a new report that shows these sales figures are still increasing.

It expects 1.25 billion smartphones to be shipped this year, with smartphone shipments forecast to pass the 2 billion mark in 2018.

LG announces KizON, a wearable mobile phone for children

LG Electronics has announced a new child-friendly mobile phone that’ll be available in South Korea from tomorrow, with a launch in North America and Europe planned for later this year.

The LG KizON is worn on a wrist band, allowing parents of pre-school and primary school children to track and call their offspring.
